Cancel human voice at home?

The popularity of home office significantly increased in the last decade especially due to an increase in the speed and reliability of internet connectivity. In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic gave another boost to the growing popularity of home office. In this post we would like to cover the issue of noise and specifically human noise that disturbs employees from having quiet phone calls from their home office.

There are many scenarios in which background human voice become noise in home office environments. Such scenarios might be:
- Co-located family members at the same room. For example, the employee and his/her spouse are sharing the same room for work. More than once these two people will be at a call during the same time and therefore they will disturb each other.
- No office. In many cases the employee might not even have an office to make business calls and these calls are done from noisy “public” locations like the living room or the kitchen. In such case the voice of other family members in the background will significantly reduce the quality of any business call.
While identifying and removing non-human sounds like dog barking is a relatively simple task as it is easy to distinguish these noises from a human voice, the ability to identify a human voice as noise, is much more complex since human voices, especially of grownups are relatively similar and could not be distinguished in real-time as required for phone calls.
