- Noise Cancellation, noise reduction, profile-based noise reduction
In this post we will discuss the current status of SoliCall’s innovative and powerful noise reduction technology. Initially this technology was introduced under the name of personal noise reduction. Few months later the concept of out-of-the-box deployment with generic profiles was introduced. Recently, we have renamed this technology to “profile-based noise reduction“.
The technology in a nutshell
This technology is using a pre-existing generic acoustic profile of the speakers in order to identify their voice during phone calls and attenuate the ambient noise.
The technology is based on sophisticated software algorithms and does not require any change in the hardware. In addition, this technology can work bi-directional and filter both the outgoing and incoming audio.
One recommended method is for the vendor to prepare a profile(s) in advance and align it with the expected usage of the system. Before preparing the profile(s), the vendor must ask himself who the target audience of the system is and which devices will be used for making the phone calls.
For example, a profile can be prepared to filter phone calls of French speaking people that are calling from different mobile phones. In order to prepare a good profile for this scenario, the vendor can record few calls, that are made by few people from the target audience while they are talking from different mobile phones. The vendor can then aggregate all these recordings to create a single generic profile.
Over time more recordings can be added to the profile in order to enhance its coverage and robustness. The additional recordings can be generic or personal.
The profile selection method depends on the product’s design/usage. For example, one option is to automatically select a profile based on the language of the mobile phone. Other methods can also be applied – you can contact us to discuss the best option for your system.
The profile-base noise reduction is a powerful technology that can enhance the quality of any existing phone conversation. It requires minimal effort from the vendor and its activation can be totally automatic and transparent to the end-user.
